Tragic police checkpoint accident claims 18 lives on Umuahia-Enugu highway

According to the report, the accident occurred in the early hours of today at a police checkpoint in Lokpanta area of ​​Abia State.

An 18-seater bus was standing at the checkpoint waiting for police clearance when a truck driver lost control and rammed it killing the driver and all passengers.

Mr Bananas Okereke, who witnessed the tragedy, described the aftermath as harrowing as the bodies of the victims lay scattered across the scene hours after the accident.

Road users, including the bus driver’s colleagues, have reportedly taken to the streets, demanding justice and vowing to continue their protest until Governor Alex Otti visits the scene.

The protesters also claimed that the police officers At the checkpoint contributed to the accident.

“Colleagues of the bus driver and other road users took over the road and demanded justice for the victims,” Okereke said.
