Tragic incident at the Thomas Johnson Bridge

LEONARDTOWN, Md – This morning authorities responded to a horrific incident at the Thomas Johnson Bridge that left people dead.

Police were alerted at 1:09 a.m. to an abandoned vehicle at the top of the bridge that was left running and unattended. A coordinated effort quickly followed with firefighters, EMS, Maryland State Police Aviation and rescue diving teams attempting to locate the person.

At approximately 2 a.m., the Maryland State Police Trooper 7 helicopter successfully located the victim, resulting in a rescue operation by firefighters aboard the Zodiak 7 fireboat. The victim received CPR during transport to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.
