Five people arrested in drug raid in Male

Five people were arrested in a drug raid in the capital.

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) said the operation was carried out on May 14 in the capital, Malé City.

The operation was based on intelligence reports received by police intelligence on drug abuse.

As part of the operation, officers from the police’s intelligence agency and the Drug Enforcement Agency (DED) arrested five men between the ages of 27 and 45.

The arrests were made on the basis of a court order.

Officers who searched the apartment where the suspects were staying at the time of the arrests seized 29 rubber packets containing suspected narcotics.

After being brought before the criminal court for a pre-trial detention hearing, the suspects were given 15 days of pre-trial detention.

The DED is currently conducting further investigations in connection with the case.
