2 plead guilty in fatal drive-by shooting on Dewey Avenue in Rochester

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Two men pleaded guilty Thursday in connection with a fatal 2023 shooting in a Rochester parking lot.

Police said Eric Martin Jr., 21, was dropping off a family member at work on May 31 when someone fired more than a dozen shots from a stolen Kia into the Dewey Avenue plaza. Martin was shot in the head and did not survive.

Kirsean Chatfield and Keyvin Miller pleaded guilty to manslaughter on Thursday.

Prosecutors said 19-year-old Miller fired the fatal shots. Chatfield, 27, was the driver. Martin was not their intended target. Shortly after the shooting, police described him as “a truly innocent person in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

According to investigators, immediately after the murder, Miller and Chatfield stole a second car, drove to Parsells Avenue and shot at a storefront.

Chatfield was caught in June 2023 when police stopped him and found the gun used in the fatal shooting.

Prosecutors said Miller will be sentenced June 26 to 25 years in prison. Chatfield will be sentenced to 15 years in prison on June 13.
