Teen arrested in connection with Wilmette jogger robbery

Local authorities on Tuesday arrested one of two suspects in an armed robbery earlier this month in Wilmette.

An 18-year-old Chicago resident is charged in connection with the crime after being arrested by Skokie and Lincolnwood police on Tuesday, May 14. The arrestee was reportedly in a stolen car, according to a release from Wilmette police.

According to the news release, the person was in possession of a handgun that matched a description of the firearm used to steal her phone from a jogger in Wilmette on May 4. The teenager also reportedly made statements that “proved his involvement” in the crime. says the police.

The person arrested was charged with armed robbery, possession of a stolen vehicle and unlawful use of a weapon, the release said.

Police are still searching for a second motive in connection with the May 4 robbery, in which a woman jogging near Beechwood and Hunter avenues was reportedly robbed at gunpoint around 9 a.m. that Saturday.

At the time, police said they were looking for two male perpetrators in a black sedan who were wearing headscarves. One of the perpetrators reportedly pointed a gun at the woman and demanded her cell phone. It is unclear whether the person arrested was the one who pointed the gun.

Police reported that the woman’s phone was discarded and recovered. The suspect vehicle was also reportedly recovered in Chicago.

Investigators identified the vehicle involved using home surveillance footage and the village’s automated license plate readers, according to a statement from Wilmette police. The vehicle was reportedly stolen from Chicago.
