Woman killed in Brightline-related collision in Rockledge area

The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a death investigation after a woman was struck and killed by a Brightline train late Tuesday near Rockledge. It was the second time in less than 48 hours that a person was killed by an oncoming train in Brevard County.

The death is also the seventh train-related death in the county since January and the sixth linked to the Brightline high-speed train, which travels through Brevard County on its daily route between Orlando and Miami.

The latest incident occurred along the railway tracks near Ansin Road at 10:30 p.m. Officials reported that a woman was found dead shortly after a collision was reported. Rescue workers from the fire department were also called to the scene of the accident.

The details of what led to the woman being beaten were not immediately known. A short time later, detectives and investigators were on site.

Another collision between a train and a pedestrian was reported in Cocoa on Sunday. Cocoa police said a 55-year-old man was attempting to cross the railroad tracks near Michigan Avenue when he was struck by a freight train. Investigations are ongoing in this case.
